Looking around in the downstairs shop, I came across a
"Lazy Susan" made from
Monkey pod wood.
Huh?
What material?
It was carved and sold in the Philippines and my folks have had it for at least 30 years. Maybe longer.
As far as I know, they never traveled there so it must have been a present.
Online, I found that these are/were very popular souvenirs.
As you can see, the two bottom trays have lift-out bowls.
On the internet, I saw a person asking $200 and another scoffing and saying
"you can get this for $5 in Manila."Ah, but we're not in Manila.
If you're interested, please make me an offer.
Another item I am told is a traditional keepsake from that part of the world is the large (30") wooden spoon and fork set.
These hang on the wall and proclaim you appreciate carvings from the Philippines.
